A Life Worth Living, is a Life Lived for Others

current mood: touched
I'd never have thought that a little car ride could make a difference. I'd never have thought that your little stories could make me tear. I'd never have thought that I'd say, right at the beginning of my Sunday: "Life is beautiful, indeed. Today's been a fulfilling day."
Today I'd like to share this story:
"I think you need this more than I need it. A $2 blessing is enough.."
Due to a series of unfortunate events, their business took a wrong turn. They grew desperate for help; desperate for a friend, a true friend..
Every path in their life then, seemed so amiss. Time was no help at all. Nothing got better. Pushed to a corner, they had only 1 choice left: to borrow money.
They looked through their list of friends, and decided to take a step of faith to ask for your aid. Somehow or another, you agreed on lending them that amount of above $10, 000, knowing that there's a possibility of losing it.
Again, nothing seemed to get better. In fact, everything got worse. They were declared bankrupts and hope seemed less visible as each day ticked away.. "I don't think I'll be getting back the money anymore," you thought.
After years, they miraculously managed to strike a lottery which enabled them to almost fully return what you had lent them. However, returning your lost of interest and et cetera was out of the question. And as it came to a new year (Chinese New Year), with all sincerity in their hearts, they handed you a red packet and said, "We cannot fully repay what you have given us, but please accept our token of appreciation."
Inside the packet contained $400, which was nothing compared to their debt to you. But selflessly, you visited them the following day and handed them a red packet (following the tradition of exchanging tokens, you would say).
As they opened the packet, they found themselves taking out $398.
And then you said, "I think you need this more than I need it. A $2 blessing is enough.."
Now they're our wonderful family friends, running one of my favourite restaurants, Dulukala, and doing better than ever. Had it not been for you who built a bridge for them, who knows what could've happened?
Thank you Dad, you inspire me.
